On Wednesday 31 January, the European Commission decided to establish definitive anti-dumping duties (from 15.5% to 38.1% according to the producers concerned) on imports into the EU of iron castings (such as manhole covers or grates used for street drainage) from China.
The anti-dumping investigation leading to the establishment of these duties was opened in December 2016 following a complaint lodged by seven EU producers about cast iron products from China and India. The investigation did not show any dumping in the case of India.
The EU had already applied anti-dumping duties against imports into the EU market of these same products from China between 2005 and 2011.
The market for cast iron products in the EU is estimated at around €700 million.
The EU now has 53 trade defence measures in place on steel and iron products from third countries, including 27 on products from China. (Original version in French by Emmanuel Hagry)
