31/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent to the European Commission and seen by Europapress, the Spanish government said on Tuesday 30 January that Kosovo was not part of the enlargement process of the Western Balkans. Like four other EU countries (Cyprus, Greece, Romania and Slovakia), Spain does not recognise the independence of Kosovo. "Kosovo is not part of an enlargement process and has its own framework of differentiated relationship, specifically the stabilisation and association agreement", the Spanish government states in its letter. It also says it is not possible to have a sustainable solution to the conflict between Kosovo and Serbia "through the unilateral imposition of results". The letter is a contribution to the strategy on the Balkans that the European Commission is due to present on Tuesday 6 February. (CG)
