Incoming Croatian Presidency of Council of EU sets out its work priorities

During its six-month rotating presidency, Croatia will continue the Council of the EU’s work on health technology assessments. So Tomislav Dulibić, Croatia’s Secretary of State for Health, informed his colleagues on 9 December. He also established organ transplants and donations, and long-term care, as Zagreb's healthcare priorities.

The incoming presidency will promote and disseminate good practice with regard to transplants and organ donations, and will seek to improve skills and monitoring of donors and recipients. With regard to long-term care, Zagreb will focus on oncology and the ageing population. The fight against cancer is also one of the priorities of the new European Commission of Ursula von der Leyen. At the Council of the EU meeting on 9 December, Commissioner Stella Kyriakides announced that she would be using World Cancer Day on 4 February next year to launch a public discussion on her strategy for the future.

The following events will be taking place during the Croatian presidency: - a high-level conference on organ donation, on 16-17 March; - e-Health Week, 15-17 April; - the informal meeting of health ministers in Zagreb on 29-30 April; - the Health Council, in Luxembourg, on 12 June.
