02/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – Former MEP François Bayrou, now president of the French party Democratic Movement (MoDem), was re-elected as head of the European Democratic Party (EDP) on Friday 29 November at the Party Council in Paris. Representatives of democratic political parties from sixteen EU Member States voted unanimously for him. MEPs Ulrike Müller, Engin Eroglu, Izaskun Bilbao Barandica, Sylvie Brunet and Corina Cretu were also elected to the presidency. During this Council, the EDP also formalised the accession of a new member: the Compromise Coalition for Galicia. “We must be vigilant and we, as European democrats, must initiate or participate in this democratic recovery, which is more vital than ever for democracy and for Europe”, said Marielle de Sarnez, Secretary General of the EDP.
