02/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission's competition services have reportedly opened a new investigation into Google’s practices, according to a Reuters report dated 2 December. The Commission's objective would be to find out why Google collects data. DG Competition would focus in particular on data related to local search services, online advertising, targeted advertising services, authentication services and web browsers. Google, for its part, explains that it uses data to improve its services and argues that users can manage, delete and transfer their data at any time. The Commission has imposed more than 8 billion euros in fines on Google over the past two years and required changes in its business practices. The opening of this new investigation shows that the Commission is not satisfied with Google’s responses. (LC)
