02/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EU ambassador to Benin, Germany’s Olivier Nette, was summoned by the authorities to leave the country before 1st December, returned to Brussels on Friday evening, 29 November. He was accused by Patrice Talon's government of interfering in internal affairs. The Minister, government spokesperson, had invoked “activities considered to be subversive to our country”. An EU source indicated that the EEAS was informed on Friday of the withdrawal of the credential. “For the EU, nothing can justify such a measure in the overall good relations which existed to date between the EU and Benin. We have therefore requested urgent clarification from our Beninese partners on the specific reasons for their decision - that we have not received yet at this stage”, this source explained on Monday 2 December.
