Commission is considering making promotional campaigns more flexible as a result of US sanctions

The European Commission is currently studying changes in the way it manages ongoing agricultural promotion campaigns, in order to allow more flexibility for operators affected by US sanctions.

The Commission is therefore expected to propose amendments to secondary legislation to allow operators to be reactive and refocus, if necessary, on alternative markets by reprogramming actions already approved for the US market, in particular regarding wines, which are subject to the new US tariff.

This would be in line with the requests made by the MEPs of the Renaissance delegation (the French members of the Renew Europe group) to the European Parliament in a letter sent on 6 November to Commissioner Phil Hogan (see EUROPE 12364/25).

In addition, Parliament intends to adopt a resolution next week in Strasbourg on measures to address the consequences for European agriculture of the WTO decision on Airbus.

This resolution was requested at the initiative of Irène Tolleret, on behalf of the Renew Europe group. A debate will take place on Monday 25 November, and the resolution is expected to be voted on Thursday 28 November.

The French delegation of the Renew Europe group in Parliament had already asked the Commission to take exceptional measures in favour of French winegrowers affected by the US sanctions against certain EU agricultural exports, in the context of the Airbus case (see EUROPE 12355/12)(Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
