20/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 20 November, the European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Pierre Moscovici, certainly welcomed the willingness of former Greek Minister Yanis Varoufakis to “open the black box” which the Eurogroup represents, alongside the presentation of the European Commission's recommendations on the 2020 draft budget plans (see other news). Not having seen the film Adults in the Room (see EUROPE 12362/30) by Costa-Gavras, based on a narrative of the negotiations on the 2nd Greek rescue by Mr Varoufakis, he considered that “the real story” of the former Greek minister's actions is “a costly failure for Greece in terms of jobs and public finances”. Without the Commission, France and the ECB, the story of the Greek financial rescue would have been very different, he said. (MB)
