20/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – The conviction of Catalan separatists Jordi Sànchez and Jordi Cuixart for sedition by the Spanish Supreme Court violates their rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, according to Amnesty International, in a statement issued on Tuesday 19 November. The NGO therefore calls for their immediate release. Admittedly, Amnesty International considers, in its analysis of the judgments of the Spanish Supreme Court, that the trial as a whole “was not unfair”. However, for the NGO, the interpretation of the crime of sedition is far “too broad” and “resulted in criminalising legitimate acts of protest”. Amnesty recalls that peaceful civil disobedience is protected by international law. To view the full analysis: http://bit.ly/2XuXZPK (PH)
