18/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The revised list of members of the Trade and Sustainable Development Committee provided for in the EU/South Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was published by the European Commission on 17 October. Almost 8 years after the implementation of the FTA, the EU decided to ask its Korean partner last July to establish a committee of experts to examine the parties' compliance with their commitments under Chapter 13 of the FTA on sustainable development. The EU is indeed concerned about certain provisions of the Korean Trade Union Act that run counter to Seoul’s obligations on standards. Among the experts cited by the EU, there are mainly international law theorists, an expert on international labour issues or a researcher in human and corporate rights.
