03/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – Referring to the controversy over additional revenues from the Berggruen-Institute think tank that the Commissioner-designate for the Internal Market, Sylvie Goulard, received when she was an MEP (see EUROPE 12340/1), the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament will propose amending Parliament's Rules of Procedure to cap this type of revenue. This would be based on the rule applicable to Members of the US Congress, which limits such income to 15% of annual remuneration. "In order to prevent potential conflicts of interest caused by high payments from interest groups and companies, MEPs' additional income must be limited. Speeches and participation in panel discussions related to their work as MEPs should no longer be rewarded financially", said Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield (Greens/EFA, France) in a statement. (MB)
