03/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The day after a controlled hearing (see EUROPE 12340/5), Helena Dalli will be the first Equality Commissioner, after two thirds of the political groups have supported her appointment to the college, proposed by Ursula von der Leyen, President-elect of the European Commission. However, the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group and the Identity and Democracy group (far right), reportedly opposed the appointment of the Maltese socialist. On 23 October, we will hear the European Parliament's opinion on the whole college of Commissioners. If it decides in its favour, the Commission will begin its work on 1 November 2019. (HD)
