04/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has appointed Elmar Brok as Special Adviser to the President on relations with Ukraine, the institution's spokesperson, Mina Andreeva, announced on Wednesday 4 September. “This decision takes effect immediately, and the position is not remunerated”, the Commission said in a statement. The 73-year-old former MEP, who was chairman of the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, will “help to forge links with the new government and identify the priorities and preferences of the new administration regarding its relations with the EU. He will carry out his tasks in cooperation with his respective EU colleagues dealing with Ukraine”, the Commission said. In addition, Mr Juncker and the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, congratulated the new Ukrainian Prime Minister, Oleksiy Honcharuk, in a letter. (CG)
