04/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – Some steel products subject to safeguards will now be exempted from parallel trade defence measures, the European Commission announced in an implementing Regulation published on Tuesday 3 September. Last February, the Commission imposed safeguard measures for a period of three years on certain steel imports into the EU (see EUROPE 12185/4). 26 categories of steel products are thus subject to tariff quotas, providing that an out-of-quota customs duty of 25% is due when imports exceed the specified threshold. Under the Commission's implementing Regulation, only certain categories of metallurgical products will now be subject to this duty: some of the duties imposed in previous Regulations imposing anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures on products subject to the safeguard measure will no longer be collected.
