21/08/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Union released €9 million in humanitarian aid on Tuesday 13 August in response to the deteriorating food and nutrition situation in Haiti, the European Commission announced on the same day. This aid will cover the basic needs of more than 130,000 people in the areas most affected by the crisis, including more than 5,000 acutely malnourished children under five. This funding will also support actions to strengthen the analysis of the food situation and improve the quality of the humanitarian response. "This assistance comes on top of the €12 million allocated in 2018 to address the urgent food and nutritional needs of Haitians”, according to Christos Stylianides, European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, quoted in a statement.
