EU denounces latest attacks on civilians

On Thursday, 1 August, the spokesman for the European External Action Service (EEAS) denounced the recent attacks in Yemen.

Earlier today, two attacks on a police station during a military parade in Aden—three days after an attack on a market in Saada province—killed at least 27 people. Approximately ten people were killed in the market attack.

The European Union stresses the importance for all parties involved in the conflict in Yemen to exercise maximum restraint and avoid acts which could contribute to a general escalation and inflict further suffering to the population”, the spokesman said in a statement.

Once again, he warned that the EU expects all parties to adhere to their respective commitments and engage with UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths “in a constructive spirit, to achieve a comprehensive political agreement”. According to the EEAS spokesman, such an agreement remains “the only option to put an end to the war and to set Yemen on the course to sustainable peace”.

He reiterated that the EU will continue to provide support to the UN Special Envoy and his team. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
