Estonian candidate Kadri Simson would aim for, like others, ‘climate and energy’ portfolio

Estonia's candidate for Commissioner in the future European Commission, Kadri Simson, would aim for the Climate Action and Energy Union portfolio. But other candidates from Romania, Poland, Lithuania and Slovenia would also like to fill this position (see EUROPE 12298/4).

The Romanian information portal Hotnews.ro is said to have obtained a document presenting the candidates who would like to take care of this important portfolio in the new Commission to be presided by Ursula von der Leyen.

Mrs Simson would be up against the following personalities for the post of Commissioner for Climate and Energy Action: Polish candidate Krzysztof Szczerski, Slovenian candidate Janez Lenarči, Romanian candidate Luminiţa Odobescu and candidates from Lithuania Virginijus Sinkevičius, Linas Linkevičius or Saulius Skvernelis.

According to the website, the Romanian Prime Minister, Viorica Dăncilă, reportedly stated that her country may also be interested in the fields of transport or the environment. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
