01/08/2019 (Agence Europe) – In the aftermath of the announcement of the suspension of negotiations between the military power and the leaders of the protest in Sudan, the EU called on the Transitional Military Council (TMC) and the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) on Wednesday 31 July to "set aside their differences and swiftly reach agreement to pave the way for a civilian-led transition". In a statement issued on Wednesday evening, the European External Action Service warned that further delays could "fuel further violence" and stressed that "The tragic murder of eight people earlier this week, including five high school students who took part in a peaceful demonstration in El Obeid, makes it even more urgent to form a transitional government that is widely supported by the population". The EU will continue to support the mediation efforts of the African Union and Ethiopia. (AN)
