Launched in April 2019, the public database 'eAmbrosia - EU Register of Geographical Indications' now includes geographical indications for spirit drinks, the European Commission announced on Friday 26 July.
The available information includes their status (applied, published or registered) and a direct link to the legal basis when the geographical indications of spirit drinks are officially protected.
eAmbrosia was designed to become the one-stop shop for EU geographical indications.
This database already includes geographical indications for wine, and now those for spirit drinks (e-Spirit-Drinks). At the end of 2019, it will contain geographical indications for agricultural products and food (DOOR).
eAmbrosia has an intuitive and easily accessible interface, which simplifies the search for information on geographical indications and increases transparency for producers, professionals, companies, national authorities, researchers and those interested in European geographical indications.
EU geographical indications legally protect more than 3,200 product names that owe their characteristic or reputation to their production region, the natural environment and the skills of local producers.
