Belgium is required to pay 926,000 euros in customs duties to EU budget

The European Commission decided on Thursday 25 July to send a reasoned opinion to Belgium for non-payment of customs duties to the EU budget, as required by EU law.

The Commission took this decision after the Belgian authorities failed to recover customs duties due by a company that did not honour its payment after being declared bankrupt. The resulting amount lost by the EU budget amounts to 926,000 euros. The Commission opened infringement proceedings in the summer of last year,...
