25/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Thursday 25 July a new €30 million in humanitarian aid to finance the effort to tackle the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This epidemic has already claimed the lives of more than 1,700 people. The funds will be used to strengthen support for infection prevention and control measures, but also to work with local communities to facilitate their acceptance of the measures taken (measures to prevent contagion, access to health care or also to ensure a safe and dignified funeral). The aid will also support survivors of the epidemic and their families. With this new funding, EU aid dedicated to the fight against Ebola since the beginning of the epidemic in 2018 amounts to €47 million (see EUROPE 12301/21). (CG)
