Two NGOs carrying out rescues of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea called on European governments, on Wednesday 3 July from the European Parliament in Strasbourg, to stop criminalising these search and rescue operations and to set up a real "public service" for search and rescue at sea, while the resources of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (ex-Frontex) are limited in this area.
