UN asks Rome to review its decree to penalise NGOs rescuing migrants at sea

13/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Thursday 13 June urged the Italian government to review its decree to financially penalise NGOs providing assistance to migrants at sea: a “humanitarian imperative”, according to UNHCR. This decree, adopted on 12 June, provides in particular for a “fine of €10,000 to €50,000 against the captain, owner and shipowner” of a ship that enters Italian territorial waters without authorisation....
