28/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – At a meeting of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) on Tuesday 28 May in Geneva, the EU submitted a first request for the establishment of a panel to rule on US measures on imports of mature Spanish olives (see EUROPE 12182/25). The EU expressed "serious concerns" about the US investigation that resulted in countervailing and anti-dumping duties on these olives, including the targeting of non-specific subsidies, the lack of analysis of the transmission of subsidies and the lack of evidence that imported olives were causing injury to US producers, reported a Geneva source. Regretting the European approach, the representative of the United States blocked this request. A second request from the EU should lead de facto to the establishment of a panel. Mr Lighthizer had promised to oppose this procedure "very aggressively" (see EUROPE 12183/25). Detailed info on the DS577 case: https://bit.ly/2EAnGpO. (HD)
