28/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen officially dissolved the government on Tuesday 28 May, the day after the vote on the motion of censure in Austria’s Parliament supported by the Social Democrats and the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) against Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (see EUROPE 12264/24). Vice Chancellor and Minister of Finance Hartwig Löger has been appointed to serve as chancellor until an interim government is appointed next week. He was the one who attended the informal dinner of EU Heads of State and Government on Tuesday. Sebastian Kurz and the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) led the European elections on Sunday 26 May and hope to win again in the national elections to be held in September. (MF)
