Registration of European Citizens' Initiative ‘Save the bees!’

15/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 15 May that it would register the European Citizens' Initiative (ECI) calling on European legislation to set binding targets for the protection of biodiversity in the implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy, the reduction of pesticide use and the conversion of natural areas. Starting 27 May, the initiative will need to collect one million signatures from at least seven Member States. The Commission will then have 3 months to decide either to follow the request or not, and in both instances would be required to explain its reasoning. Approved at the end of 2018, the reform of the ECI will be applicable from January 2020 (EUROPE 12159/20). ((MB)
