07/05/2019 (Agence Europe) – On behalf of the EU, the Presidents of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, and the European Council, Donald Tusk, congratulated the new President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski (see EUROPE 12248/20), in a letter dated 6 May. “We look forward to working with you closely (...) to advance our common objective of building a united and prosperous Europe”, they stressed. The two Presidents reaffirmed the “European Union's unequivocal commitment to the European perspective of the Western Balkans”. Juncker and Tusk encouraged Pendarovski to pursue the path of "real and sustained reform” in his country. According to them, the Prespa Agreement with Greece is an “extraordinary political achievement”, a “crucial step” on the road to the EU and “an example of reconciliation for others in the region and beyond".
