Manufacturers want expansion of high-capacity heavy-duty vehicles in order to reduce CO2 emissions

07/05/2019 (Agence Europe)The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) is calling for a policy framework to support the development of very high-capacity heavy-duty vehicles at European level in a statement issued on Tuesday 7 May. These trucks could carry up to twice as many goods as normal trucks and could operate on dedicated sections of the EU road network. According to the organization, three high-capacity vehicles can replace six ordinary trucks, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 27%. ACEA adds that these vehicles are already authorised in Belgium, Denmark, several German Länder, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. "In these countries, CO2 reductions have been confirmed in practice", ACEA concludes. (PH)
