07/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – To take into account the global data collection system for fuel oil consumption of ships adopted by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), the Commission proposed on Monday 4 February to amend the EU Regulation imposing a monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) mechanism for ships' emissions (Regulation 2015/757). Monitoring of fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and energy efficiency began in 2018 and the deadline for the first emissions reports is April 2019. IMO monitoring obligations will start to apply in 2019 and reporting will be required in 2020. The objective of the proposed amendment to the EU Regulation is to rationalise and reduce the administrative burden for companies and administrations that will have to comply with the obligations of both the EU and IMO systems.
