07/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday February 7, the Ukrainian Parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, adopted a draft presidential law by 334 votes out of 385, which amends the preamble of the Ukrainian constitution to include the country's irreversible path towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration. President Petro Poroshenko described this day as "historic". He said that February 7 is "the day when the movement of Ukraine to the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance will be consolidated in the Constitution as a foreign political landmark". At the end of January, Mr Poroshenko announced that his country would submit its application for EU membership in 2024. Presidential elections are scheduled in Ukraine for March. (CG)
