In case of a ‘no deal’ Brexit, exports of dual use goods across Channel may continue

04/02/2019 (Agence Europe)On Monday 4 February, the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade unanimously approved, without amendment, the European Commission's proposal to include the United Kingdom on the list of third countries who have general authorisation for export from the European Union of certain dual use goods. The request, which was urgently submitted by the European Commission to prepare the EU for a possible ‘no deal’ Brexit, was favourably received by MEPs. For rapporteur Klaus Buchner (Greens/EFA, German), these exports should indeed be able to continue, because anything to the contrary “would not be good for us or for the United Kingdom”. This was based on the fact that London applies very strict controls, with a record number of refusals of authorisations for this type of export. (HD)
