21/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – The French Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) announced on Monday 21 January its decision to impose a penalty of €50 million on Google for non-compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Shortly after the entry into force of the Regulation, the CNIL had received collective complaints from the None of Your Business (NOYB) association and La Quadrature du Net against Google (see EUROPE 12029). The American giant is blamed for lack of transparency, unsatisfactory information and lack of valid consent for the personalisation of advertising. The CNIL justifies its decision by the seriousness of the breaches, but also by the predominant position of the Android operating system on the French market. “The breaches identified continue to this day and are ongoing violations of the Regulations”, she said.
