15/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 15 January, the European Parliament approved the proposal on the continuation from 2021 to 2027 of financing for the ITER Joint Undertaking and fusion energy development activities. However, Parliament recalled the delay in the construction of this experimental reactor, since ITER was originally scheduled to be built by 2020. In 2016, the ITER Council approved a new timetable for reaching the first plasma stage in December 2025, the earliest technically feasible date for the construction of ITER. Euratom’s indicative contribution to the Joint Undertaking for the period 2021-2027 and the corresponding support expenditure for the same period are set at EUR 6.07 billion (in current value). (LC)
