19/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the EU (Coreper) approved the mandate for the European Commission to repair a mesh of the net protecting European producers from fraudulent imports of Ukrainian chicken breasts on Wednesday 19 December. Indeed, under the EU-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement, Kiev had obtained, under the category 'other chicken bone-in cuts' (CN 0207 13 70), the right to export duty-free chicken cuts to the EU (see EUROPE 12156). This authorisation was fraudulently used by a Ukrainian exporter, the 'inventor' of a new chicken cut containing a breast with a piece of wing bone. Once the bone was cut out, the rest was sold in the EU as chicken breast. On Thursday 20 December the Council of Ministers will, in turn, approve the negotiating mandate proposed by the European Commission. (HD)
