19/12/2018 (Agence Europe) – The Ontario-based Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) released a report on Thursday 13 December examining what trade policy options the international community can pursue to help refugees and their host countries. In order to alleviate the "enormous financial and social costs" borne by these countries, trade measures, such as reducing tariffs on goods produced by refugees, could provide a sustainable response, according to the study. It takes as a model the agreement concluded between the EU and Jordan and proposes ways to improve its effectiveness and also calls on the international community to take a greater interest in this type of solution. On 12 December, a decision to improve this trade regime for Syrian refugees was taken by the EU and Amman (see EUROPE 12161). Read the document: https://bit.ly/2R8n4PH (HD)
