21/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – The mayor of a French municipality (Grande-Synthe) filed an appeal against the French government on Tuesday 20 November for their refusal to take action on climate change, according to the French media. The reason for this appeal being the threat to the interests of his municipality because France's international obligations are not being upheld. Speaking on Wednesday on France Inter, the French Minister for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, François de Rugy, said that this was "the ultimate moment as we are in the process of debating the carbon tax". The government has two months to respond before the case is brought before the courts. On 9 October, the Netherlands was sentenced on appeal by a court to do more to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, following a complaint filed by citizens and an NGO. (AN)
