06/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – With Yemen descending into the worst food crisis in the world, the European Commission decided on Tuesday 6 November to increase its humanitarian assistance by €90 million. This funding will enable vital aid for some 8 million particularly vulnerable people – food and nutritional assistance, but also health care, sanitation and protection. "We are in a race against time to avoid a famine in Yemen", European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides stated, calling on all parties to the conflict to allow humanitarian access. He added: "the only way to stop this ongoing humanitarian tragedy is through a political solution that puts an end to the violence". This new funding brings total EU humanitarian assistance in Yemen in 2018 to €118 million. (AN)
