06/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – Through the European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, the EU pledged on Tuesday 6 November to contribute some 26 million euros (30 million dollars) to the Global Financing Facility for women's, children's and adolescents’ health and health-related sustainable development objectives. The pledge was made at an event in Oslo organized by the World Bank, the governments of Norway and Burkina Faso, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The call for replenishment aims at expanding support to 50 countries by 2023. The assistance comes on top of the EU 2.6 billion euros investment into health sectors through its development assistance for the period 2014-2020. (AN)
