30/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – The S&D Group in the European Parliament will hear, on Tuesday 6 November, the two candidates for the head of the list (Spitzenkandidaten) of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and ultimately for the presidency of the European Commission. Slovak Maroš Šefčovič and Dutchman Frans Timmermans will present their priorities before answering questions from MEPs in their political family. The hearing will take place from 4.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. in Parliament. At this stage, the Slovak has the support of nine social democratic parties in the EU: Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Malta, Poland (two parties), Romania and Slovakia. The Dutchman, on the other hand, has the support of 10 parties. The appointment of the official PES candidate will take place on 1 December, depending on the voting method chosen by each member party. The PES congress, scheduled for 7-8 December in Lisbon, will result in the adoption of resolutions that will feed into the party's future manifesto. (SPj)
