29/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – No date has yet been set for the fifth negotiation meeting between Parliament and the Council on ending the geographical blockage for certain radio and television programmes (the so-called 'SatCab' proposal). On the Parliament side, the meeting of the shadow rapporteurs was even cancelled last week. However, according to a well-informed source, this does not mean that discussions are at a standstill; far from it. Negotiators continue their efforts to reach a common understanding of the concept of "clean production" to which the country of origin principle would apply (Article 2). For a reminder, this proposal aims to promote the cross-border provision of ancillary online services and to facilitate the digital retransmission of television and radio broadcasts from other Member States (see EUROPE 11624).
