Resolution of Banco Popular – former creditors and shareholders to be heard starting on 6 November

16/10/2018 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 16 October, the Single Resolution Board (SRB) announced that nearly 12,000 parties affected by the resolution of the Spanish bank Banco Popular (see EUROPE 11803) had expressed an interest in being heard. Parties deemed eligible will have three weeks from 6 November to submit their observations in writing, it explained. On 13 June of this year, the SRB announced that it had received Deloitte's assessment report on the rescue of the bank and announced its preliminary decision not to compensate former shareholders and creditors (see EUROPE 12040), having concluded that they would not have received better treatment if the bank had been liquidated in the framework of a normal insolvency procedure. “All comments submitted will be reviewed and assessed in order to inform the SRB's final decision on whether compensation should be granted”, the institution explained.
