10/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament and Council of the EU are preparing to hold what will probably be their last inter-institutional meeting on the second review of the directive on the protection of workers from exposure to carcinogens or mutagens at work on Thursday 11 October. The subject that will occupy the co-legislators again is the upper limit on diesel fumes (0.05 mg/m³) demanded by the European Parliament. At the last inter-institutional meeting, the Council proposed introducing a review clause and listing diesel fumes in annex but without mentioning an upper limit. The Parliament is reported to be prepared to be flexible over the limit value, the transition period and derogations for mining and tunnel excavation (see EUROPE 12050). The meeting will end in the early afternoon. (PH)
