19/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – The uncertainty surrounding the new charges linked to security for the European Council is irritating the International Press Association (API-IPA) and Belgian journalists, who are asking for swift clarification from the Belgian authorities. "Just weeks ahead of the next EU summit in Brussels, we are still waiting for a clear answer from Belgian authorities", API-IPA deplores in a press release, underlining how discriminatory these new measures are (see EUROPE 12075). It adds: "we cannot accept that journalists will come to the summit not knowing whether they will be charged for doing their job, nor how their personal data will be used by the Belgian authorities". API-IPA sent a letter to Belgium's Prime Minister Charles Michel, urging him to drop the planned charges when the Belgian authorities had simply committed to bringing "adjustments" (see EUROPE 12076).
