13/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – No sooner had the European Commission’s proposal suggesting an end to the clock change on 1 April 2019 been published (see EUROPE 12094) than work began at the Council of the European Union’s working group on land transport. Representatives of the Commission in effect presented the draft proposal to national experts on the working group on Thursday 13 September. While the presentation may seem premature, only twenty-four hours after the official signing of the institution’s proposal, there was not really an alternative given the very tight timeline. In order for the end of the hour change to happen on 1 April of next year, the Commission aims to end the interinstitutional ‘trilogue’ negotiations in March at the latest. MEPs on the European Parliament’s transport committee also need to examine the matter. (LT)
