13/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 13 September, Italy announced its intention to remove its signature from the working paper published by seven EU countries (including France and Poland) regarding the electricity market regulation. The Italian government hopes it will thus gain time to deepen and, where necessary, review its position on the subject of capacity mechanisms (see EUROPE 12094). Italy says it is necessary to assess whether, in terms of impact, it would be more appropriate to have flexible capacity mechanisms or a strategic reserve on the German model which, although it is only active when demand peaks, can harm citizens’ health.
