27/08/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 26 August, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini paid tribute to Senator John McCain, a former candidate for the US presidency, who has died of cancer. She said in a press release that McCain "was a respected statesman who dedicated his entire life to public service. He was a man of integrity, principles and a high sense of duty." Mogherini said the US senator "was a true believer in the importance of a strong transatlantic relationship for Europe’s and the US security and prosperity and as the pillar of the rules-based global order." "On behalf of the European Union, I convey our heartfelt condolences to his family and the American people. We all pay tribute to him and mourn his passing, but his legacy will endure." (CG)
