27/08/2018 (Agence Europe) – In an interview on Monday 27 August with Politico, European Budget Commissioner Günther Oettinger commented on Italy’s contribution to the EU budget that the figure that had been put forward needed to be “corrected”. The Italian government has threatened to stop providing its contribution to the European budget if the EU refuses to accommodate its demands on migration, and claims its contribution is €20 billion. Oettinger said “It’s not €20 billion a year. Italy pays in €14, 15, 16 billion a year. If you take into account what they get out of the EU budget, that leaves a net contribution of €3 billion a year” Oettinger said. “€20 billion is a travesty.” (LC)
