A Palestinian with UNRWA refugee status cannot obtain refugee status in the EU as they are protected or assisted by this organisation

In a judgment delivered on Wednesday July 25 in Case C-585/16, the judges at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) decided that a Palestinian benefiting from refugee status with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) cannot obtain refugee status in the Union as long as she enjoys the effective protection or assistance from that this UN organisation (see EUROPE 12022).
