The Commission sent letters of formal notice on Thursday 19 July to all the member states of the European Union, with the exception of Lithuania, for failure to comply with the directives (2005/36/EC and 2013/55/EU) governing the recognition of professional qualifications.
The letters of formal notice relate, in particular, to the introduction of the European professional card (see EUROPE 12000), the alert mechanism, the possibility of partial access to a professional activity, the proportionality of language requirements and the setting up of assistance centres.
Furthermore, the Commission raises issues relating to the transparency and proportionality of regulatory obstacles in professional services partly mentioned in its communication of January 2017 on reform recommendations for regulation in professional services.
The 27 member states now have two months to respond to the arguments raised by the Commission. (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
