19/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – Romania has been sent a reasoned opinion calling on it to transpose the European directive on the limitation of emissions of certain pollutants into the air from medium combustion plants (Directive EU 2015/2193), the European Commission announced on Thursday 19 July. The directive sets limit values for emissions of sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and dust into the air and lays down rules to monitor emissions of carbon monoxide with the aim of reducing those emissions and the risks to human health and the environment they may cause (see EUROPE 11405). The deadline for transposition was 19 December 2017. Despite receiving a letter of formal notice in January 2018, Romania has still not communicated the transposition measures to the Commission. It now has two months to respond or face possible referral to the Court of Justice. (AN)
